1. A Woman Comes to Jesus (Luke 7:36-38)
One day, a Pharisee named Simon invited Jesus to his house. While they were there, a woman known as a sinner came in. She stood at Jesus’ feet, weeping, and expressed her repentance. She wiped His feet with her hair, kissed them, and poured perfume on them as a sign of her love and respect.
Questions
- Do you come before God with a sincere heart of repentance? (Luke 7:38)
- Is your love for Jesus merely formal, or does it reflect genuine devotion? (Luke 7:37-38)
2. The Pharisee’s Doubt and Jesus’ Teaching (Luke 7:39-47)
Simon thought to himself, “If Jesus were truly a prophet, He would know that this woman is a sinner.” Jesus, knowing his thoughts, told a parable about two people who had their debts forgiven. He explained that the one who was forgiven more would show greater love. In the same way, the woman loved much because she had been forgiven much.
Questions
- Do you judge others quickly instead of focusing on Jesus’ love and grace? (Luke 7:39)
- How deeply do you recognize and give thanks for the grace you have received from Jesus? (Luke 7:47)
3. The Woman is Forgiven (Luke 7:48-50)
Jesus told the woman that her sins were forgiven. The people around Him were surprised and questioned, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” But Jesus assured the woman that her faith had saved her and told her to go in peace.
Questions
- Do you truly believe in Jesus’ forgiveness and live in His peace? (Luke 7:50)
- How are you sharing the love and grace of Jesus with others? (Luke 7:48-50)
Prayer
Loving and merciful God, I come before You as a weak and imperfect person. Like the woman in this passage, I want to sincerely repent and love You with all my heart. Help me to recognize the depth of Your grace and respond with true devotion, not just empty actions. May I live in the peace that comes from Your forgiveness and share Your love with those around me.
In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
